LevelPlayCompass covers free strategy, city-building and simulation games. These are titles that unfold over weeks, which makes them badly served by reviews written after an afternoon. We take the opposite approach: fewer games, longer testing, plain writing.
How we test
A minimum of two weeks per game, played the way a normal person would — a couple of short sessions a day rather than a marathon. We track how the game paces itself, how often it interrupts you, and what happens when the early content runs out.
What the score reflects
- Depth — is there a real decision behind the interface, or only a schedule?
- Pace — does the game respect the time it asks for?
- Fairness — how far does a player who spends nothing actually get?
- Durability — were we still opening it in week three?
What we will not do
We do not accept payment for a listing or a rating, we do not describe any game as a way to earn anything, and we do not host or embed games. Every link goes to the developer.
Corrections
Long-running games change constantly. If an entry here has fallen out of date, write to us through the contact form — corrections are made openly on the page.
